This is going to be splendid

'Cause migraine blogging always is.

For reasons I'd rather not go into (mom), I've gotten myself roped into making guacamole. I've never made guacamole before, but I figure it can't be too much harder than salsa. Cancel the tomato and substitute avocado? Yep. That's what I'm going to do. I think lime juice is crucial, too.

Oh hell. Why can't I just make my specialty: buzzed brownies. (It's not what you're thinking. The special ingredient is Kahlua. Or Rum. Or flat Bud -- just kidding.)

I'm not a fabulous cook. Everything I know I learned from watching Top Chef, and none of my favorites make it to the top five, so that probably says something about my palate. Or from watching my dad cook, and he cooks like a dude -- all omelettes and barbecue. Besides the brownies, I can make a decent pasta sauce (hey, I'm Italian. I'd bring great shame to my family if I couldn't even manage marinara), stir-fry whatever, and pumpkin bread. The guacamole shouldn't be too much of a a challenge, though.

Edit: Found a guacamole recipe in The Joy Of Cooking. If you've never read this massive tome, I highly recommend you at least flip through... oh, the first several hundred pages or so.

Oh my God. It doesn't get much better than guacamole. The only tip I know--Throw the avocado seeds into the guac to keep it greener longer. (Whatever. It never lasts more than an hour or so over here...)

I made guacamole once, for a Spanish class in college. I remember that it was pretty easy and turned out well. No worries! :)
